Impersonator 52n

All NEW Gen-2 Impersonator 52n incorporates newly developed technology and specially made parts engineered to produce our first Tele neck pickup with loud Non-Aged-Sound. We recommend you switch to the Technical Tab to the right for the important stuff you should know about this new model.

The sound it produces is non-aged, which means quite dynamic and alive. Behaves like a new non-noiseless pickup and tends to resist crunching too easily under heavy pick attack. Highs with a lot of presence, soft-edged twangy midrange with highly prominent piano mid-tones and lovely deep bass …. and it’s loud and punchy.

Impersonator 52n (Gen-2) ….. Tele* neck with soft-edged Twang

All new Gen-2 Tele neck pickup with its new Nickel-Silver cover

Excellent on-stage definition without having to play too loud. It will sound as good to your audience as it does to you, whether it’s soft, loud, or distorted.

It’s got a far taller string sensing coil, longer magnets, and Kinman’s patented magnetic focusing technology, which enables Non-Aged-Sound to be produced with enough volume to balance with the very loud Impersonator 52b bridge model too.

This pickup has Kinman’s propriety Alnico-K low strength magnets, like all our Fender type pickups, so string pull, and Strat-itis pitch warble is minimized, and sustain is longer since there is less rattle and buzz from the strings crashing into the frets from excessive magnet pull.

Best in a Kinman TK3 or TK4 Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Adjustment requirements
The Impersonator 52n has an advanced magnetic circuit and needs to be adjusted close to the strings to get its best performance.  You can adjust the pickup as close as a 1.5mm gap between the bottom of E-6th and the top of the cover with string pressed onto the 12th fret (or not so close if the strings strike the cover).

Please refer to >(main) Technical >Adjust & Setup

Cavity depth required

  • Suitable for vintage spec models which have a pickup cavity depth of 16mm (5/8″).

Connection means available

  • Prepared bare wires for soldering.
  • Kinman connector for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.

Hook-up cable

  • Prepared and cut generously longer than necessary for Telecasters.
  • Custom lengths by request with Order.
  • 3 conductor shielded cable (enables series connection of 4 pos switch –and– phase reversible –and– it’s compatible with Fender’s S1) harness).

Dimensions

Output Polarity:

  • Phase reversible, so can adapt to any companion pickups.

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Great Tele sound with 250k volume pot.  A 500k volume pot makes the twang sharper.  Both are good.
  • The tone pot is usually the same value as the volume, but for a little more, top-end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 170k and 350k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less than 250k and 500k, respectively.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF in 63 ~ 100-volt Polyester.  Smaller value reduces the severity of the Treble cut, larger values increase it.

Magnet spread

  • Standard 50mm only

Magnet Staggers

  • Normal improved Stagger to suit 7 ~ 14-inch range uniform radius fretboards.
  • Flat Stagger for specific compound radius fretboards (Warmoth 10 ~ 16 inch and Post 2010 Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14″)
  • Option to specify the magnet stagger of sets and singles in our ‘After-Order Supplementary Questions‘ email we send you.

Mounting hardware included

  • 2 Pan head mounting screws 4-40 UNC x 18mm
  • 2 Silicon Rubber tube springs.

Cover

  • NEW Tele neck pickup can have electro-Chrome, Gold plated Nickel-Silver, or buffed natural Nickel-Silver (great for relaxing) cover for extended durability and zero impact on sonic performance.  Matching mounting screws.
  • Arched top to accommodate staggered magnets for perfect string volume balance.
  • With or without the Kinman logo.

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info, even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans require specialized knowledge, and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.

We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.

** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985.  It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5, so sustain is longer, and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.

* Fender and Telecaster and Tele are registered Trade Marks of Fender Musical Instrument Corp, Inc.  Kinman are not associated with FMIC but they kindly permit us to refer to their Trade Marks to reference our products.
