Description
AVn-48n ….. (Gen-2) louder, spankier, twangier, punchier
AVn-48n (Gen-2 neck pickup)
Patented advanced design to give you better sound with Zero-Hum. We recommend you scroll to the Technical & Application Info section below for important stuff you should know about this new model.
The all NEW Gen-2 version is very different to the original 1st generation design. The taller coil, longer magnets and Kinman’s patented magnetic focusing device produces non-aged sound which is much more alive, open and much much louder than it’s Gen-1 predecessor. The sound is punchier with increased dynamic range for more fluid touch sensitivity. Strings feel more relaxed and the notes flow freely. It behaves like a new non-noiseless pickup and tends to resist crunching too easily under heavy pick attack. It’s loud, snappy, bright and present so it will more than balance with it’s companion AVn-48b bridge pickup in the Broadcaster set.
We have a very nice non-noiseless Fender pickup here which we all agree is the best Tele neck pickup we have heard. The AVn-48n Gen-2 actually surpasses this Fender reference pickup in every way except it has no hum whatsoever. This is a stunning achievement for a hum-cancelling pickup and is what makes Kinman the King of Noiseless, and the AVn-48n Gen-2 is yet another crowning glory.
The sound has wonderful snap, sharp twang and well defined piano mid-tones. You’ll get loads of attitude with minimal pick action. The AVn-48n Gen-2 has unmistakable Telecaster focus, charisma and tonal flavour. Excellent on-stage definition without having to play too loud. It will sound as good to your audience as it does to you whether it’s soft, loud or distorted.
To kill the hum without killing the tone and preserve the original appearance has taken nothing less than a technological revolution.
This pickup has Kinman’s propriety Alnico low strength magnets, like all our Fender type pickups, so string pull is minimized, sustain is longer and there is less rattle and buzz from the strings crashing into the frets from excessive magnet pull.
Sounds best in a Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.
Technical Stuff
Some people will call these noiseless Telecaster pickups but Kinman prefers to describe them correctly as Zero-Hum Telecaster pickups. That’s because there are 2 types of noise, Hum which is cancelled in the pickup and Buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars
Number of parts in this pickup: 172
Number of parts in normal pickup: 10
Number of parts in other brand noiseless: 23
US Patents 7,022,909 & 8,791,351
Adjustment requirements
The AVn-48n has an advanced magnetic circuit and needs to be adjusted close to the strings to get it’s best performance. You can adjust the pickup as close as 1.5mm gap between bottom of E-6th and top of cover with string pressed onto the 12th fret (or not so close if the strings strike the cover).

Cavity depth required
- Suitable for vintage spec models which have pickup cavity depth of 16mm (5/8″).
Connection means available
- Prepared bare wires for soldering.
- Kinman connector for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.
Hook-up cable
- Prepared and cut generously longer than necessary for Telecasters.
- Custom lengths by request with Order.

Output Polarity:
- Phase reversible so can adapt to any companion pickups.
Pot & Capacitor values
- Great Tele sound with 250k volume pot. A 500k volume pot makes the twang sharper. Both are good.
- Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
- Stock pots can actually measure as low as 170k and 350k. Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 250k and 500k respectively.
- Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester. Smaller value reduces the severity of Treble cut, larger values increase it.
Magnet spread
- Standard 50mm only.
Magnet Staggers
- Normal improved Stagger to suit 7 ~ 14 inch uniform radius fretboards.
- Flat Stagger for specific compound radius fretboards (Warmoth 10 ~ 16 inch and Post 2010 Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14″)
- Option to choose the magnet stagger of sets and singles in our ‘After-Order Supplementary Questions‘ email we send you.
Mounting hardware included
- 2 Pan head mounting screws 4-40 UNC x 18mm.
- 2 Silicon Rubber tube springs.
Cover
- NEW Tele neck pickup is hand buffed natural Natural Nickel-Silver (great for relicing) cover for extended durability and zero impact on sonic performance. Matching mounting screws.
- Arched top to accommodate staggered magnets for perfect string volume balance.
- With or without Kinman logo.
We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all. Kinmans’ require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info. There is also a handy wiring diagram available.
We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.
** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985. It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.
