AVn-60n (Gen-2 neck pickup)
The all NEW Gen-2 version is very different to the original 1st generation design. We recommend you scroll to the Technical & Application Info section below for important stuff you should know about this new model.
The taller coil, longer magnets and Kinman’s patented magnetic focusing device produces non-aged sound which is much more alive and open than it’s Gen-1 predecessor. The sound of the new AVn-60n Gen-2 has more pronounced twang and increased dynamic range for more fluid touch sensitivity. Strings feel more relaxed and the notes flow freely. Behaves like a new non-noiseless pickup and tends to resist crunching too easily under heavy pick attack. It’s louder and brighter too so it balances well with it’s companion AVn-60b bridge pickup.
The 3 new Vintage Neck pickup models, AVn-60n, AVn-48n and Impersonator 52n, have a lot in common but there are subtle but significant differences between them. The AVn-48n has the sharpest twang with the most prominent piano mid tones. The AVn-60n is one step down and has a slightly more mellow twang and slightly softer feel and is about as loud as the 48n. The Impersonator 52n is the most rounded with the mildest trebles and has the same loudest as the others.
To kill the hum without killing the tone and preserve the original appearance has taken nothing less than a technological revolution.
This pickup has Kinman’s propriety Alnico low strength magnets, like all our Fender type pickups, so string pull is minimized, sustain is longer and there is less rattle and buzz from the strings crashing into the frets from excessive magnet pull.
Sounds best in a Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.
Technical Stuff
The sonic performance is upheld by our NEW Gen-2 Nickel-Silver cover which is engineered to look like the original but not impact in a negative way on the sonic performance of the pickup as the original 60’s Fender Chromed Brass covers do. Our cover is also arched to allow staggered magnets which produce much improved string volume balance. Also the cover does not produce buzz when touched with fingers. Available in 3 finishes, Chrome plated, Gold plated and buffed un-plated Nickel-Silver that will age fast for a relic look.
Orders shipped after 30-Jan-2017 will have the Gen-2 upgrade.
Some people will call these noiseless Telecaster pickups but Kinman prefers to describe them correctly as Zero-Hum Telecaster pickups. That’s because there are 2 types of noise, Hum which is cancelled in the pickup -and- Buzz which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars
Number of parts in this pickup: 172
Number of parts in normal pickup: 10
Number of parts in other brand noiseless: 23
US Patents 7,022,909 & 8,791,351
Adjustment requirements
The AVn-60n has an advanced magnetic circuit and needs to be adjusted close to the strings to get it’s best performance. You can adjust the pickup as close as 1.5mm gap between bottom of E-6th and top of cover with string pressed onto the 12th fret (or not so close if the strings strike the cover).

Cavity depth required
- Suitable for vintage spec models which have pickup cavity depth of 16mm (5/8″).
Connection means available
- Prepared bare wires for soldering.
- Kinman connector for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.
Hook-up cable
- Prepared and cut generously longer than necessary for Telecasters.
- Custom lengths by request with Order.
- 3 conductor shielded cable (suitable for series connection of 4 pos switch –and– phase reversible –and– compatible with Fender’s S1 harness).
Dimensions
- Click for dimensions page
Output Polarity
- Phase reversible so can adapt to any companion pickups.
Pot & Capacitor values
- Great Tele sound with 250k volume pot. A 500k volume pot makes the twang sharper. Both are good.
- Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
- Stock pots can actually measure as low as 170k and 350k. Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 250k and 500k respectively.
- Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester. Smaller value reduces the severity of Treble cut, larger values increase it.
Magnet spread
- Standard 50mm only.
Magnet Staggers
- Normal improved Stagger to suit 7 ~ 14 inch range uniform radius fretboards.
- Flat Stagger for specific compound radius fretboards (Warmoth 10 ~ 16 inch and Post 2010 Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14″).
- Option to change the magnet stagger of sets and singles in our ‘After-Order Supplementary Questions‘ email we send you.
Mounting hardware included
- 2 Pan head mounting screws 4-40 x 21mm UNC.
- 2 Silicon Rubber tube springs.
Cover
- NEW Tele neck pickup has electro-Chrome or Gold plated Nickel-Silver or Natural Nickel-Silver (great for relicing) cover for extended durability and zero impact on sonic performance. Matching mounting screws.
- Arched top to accommodate staggered magnets for perfect string volume balance.
- With or without Kinman logo.
We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in Tech Info even if you think you know it all. Kinmans’ require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info. There is also a handy wiring diagram available.
We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in Tech Info so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.
** Alnico-K is a unique proprietary Alnico rod magnet developed by Kinman in 1985. It is Alnico-5 but has 40% less string pull than Alnico-5 so sustain is longer and there is much less clatter from string crash and no Strat-itis string warble.
