Twang-Bucker

Step into the limelight center stage, all ears will be on you when you play it your way with your Twang-Bucker. There is nothing like the Twang-Bucker with it ‘s not 98%, not 99%, but 110% super-single-coil sound. It brings totally new, inspiring and beautiful crystal single coil sounds to Les Pauls and other guitars with Mahogany necks because it brings out the low end girth that Mahogany provides.

In Telecasters, Stratocasters and other guitars with Maple necks the Twang-Bucker sounds with more juice, better dynamics and prettier highs than Fender pickups. One customer said it’s like a P-90 and a Fender pickup had a baby and somehow is more remarkable than and outshines both parents. Another one said “EVERYONE that I let play these pups “trips out”. They Love Them!!!

Twang-Bucker ~ Huge 3D Fender-esque sound with sharp TWANG.

More than one said it’s a pickup to die for. Read the Report Cards for more user accolades.

Fast attack makes it a killer pickup to shred on! It’s good for the stuff you’d expect a twangy pickup to do, like country and classic rock, but don’t shy away from putting some drive on this thing, it will drop your jaw. Creative song writers will derive inspiration from this wonderful pickup.

Imagine a Les Paul with the best, biggest, juiciest single coil sound with the most luscious bass end and hugeest dynamics that you can imagine. Makes Fender’s look ordinary. It has a clean sparkly sound with shimmering harmonics, prettier than a Strat pickup and has the huge girth of a P-90, and a lot of kick, snap and power. The sound is HUGE and very responsive with beyond-excellent piano mid tones. Sharp twangy, juicy and bitey but mellow and sweet at the same time depending on the way you pick or strum the strings.

Voice one: “OK, stop the gushing“. Voice two: ‘Orite …… but of course the Twang-Bucker can do so much more that that because it is one very versatile humbucker. The innovative magnet system makes for the most intense piano-mid-tones from the wound strings, and impart a focused crispness with excellent note separation typical of single coil pickups. “I said stop with the gushing OK?” ….. ‘Sorry, can’t stop myself because I can’t put this darn guitar down.

Twang-Bucker for the neck position, clear and sharp with terrific juicy sharp twang and remarkable piano-mid-tones.

Twang-Bucker Whopper* whopper sound for the bridge or neck position, louder and fatter than the above, and it still has terrific juicy sharp twang. *Whopper: something unusually large or otherwise extreme of its kind (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

  • Totally immune to microphonic screech.
  • Absolutely Zero-Hum (more silent than regular humbuckers)

For reverse offset pole configuration ask for Left Hand in the Additional Notes box.

Our Humbuckers cancel hum better than any other humbucker but there is another type of noise called ‘electrical buzz’ which can only be minimized by shielding the wiring cavities (refer to >Technical >Perfect Guitar >Shielding for newer guitars)

Patent number 8,791,351

Kinman Humbuckers can be ordered with the optional 2 wire and 5 wire Gibson Quick Connect circuit board connectors shown below. Check inside the control cavity.

Technical Stuff

The Baseplate is Laser engraved with all Identity info

Introduced Aug-13.

Direct replacement for conventional humbuckers such as Gibson, Duncan etc. Some guitars (a few Ibanez, some Fender Strat and one or two others) have pickups with excessively rounded corners. If a pickguard is fitted (for example Fender Strat Deluxe) a small modification to the pickguard opening to accommodate a Kinman humbucker is well worth the effort since Kinman ‘s sound so much better. The cavity in the body is suitable as it is.

Reasons it sounds so good: There are other similar pickups on the market with Alnico rod magnets, but these simplistic pickups lack ooomph. The Twang-Bucker is far more complex and incorporates our exclusive Patented technology which gives it a lot of ooomph, outstanding clarity and explosive dynamics.

The Twang-Bucker has low-string-pull proprietary Alnico-5 magnets and Kinman’s recently Patented technology which increases Inductance without adding more turns of wire to the coils. That’s the reason our Twang-Bucker has a lot of kick, snap and power and very strong and sharp twang; yet is clear and transparent and sweeter than any Strat pickup.

Hook-up cable

  • 2 conductor shielded hook-up cable. 380mm / 15 ” long.
  • upon request: 3 conductor with outer shield for phase reversal.

Connection means available

  • Bare wires for soldering.
  • Kinman connectors for plugging into any Kinman Goodbye-Soldering Harness.- including the 2 pickup KHP-90 for Gibsons.
  • Gibson 2 wire & 5 wire Quick Connect circuit board connectors shown below.

Output Polarity:

  • in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
  • in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
  • opposite phase to Fender Strat

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with 500k Ohm for Volume & Tone. Many Gibson ‘s have 300k which makes a darker, less dynamic sound.
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or a No-Load.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022µF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester. Smaller value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.

Magnet spread

  • 47.5mm for the neck position when the bridge saddle spread measures 52mm
  • 50mm only, so suitable for all other applications except bridge position of a Strat with vintage 6 point bridge, Telecaster bridge and bridge position in other guitars with a bridge saddle spread greater than 54mm.
  • For bridge position in Strats with a vintage 6 point bridge sorry there is no companion pickup available at this time except a 580 (P-90 Hx).

Magnet Staggers

  • Fixed magnet stagger suiting 7 ~ 14 ” uniform radius fretboards (Gibson, most Fender etc)
  • Fixed magnet stagger suiting 14 ‘ ~ 20 ” Including Warmoth 10~16 ” Compound Radius & 2010 onwards Fender Deluxe 9 ~ 14 “.
  • Option to change the magnet stagger in our ‘After-Payment Supplementary Questions ‘ email we send you.

Covers and colors

  • Our exclusive ‘240’ and generic open top & closed top Natural Nickel-Silver or Durable Black or Gold plated covers with matching pole & mounting screws.
  • Various colored top plates are available (Black, Cream, White) Or visit the What’s New section >Open-top humbuckers with new decorative top plates.
  • Kinman humbuckers are engineered differently without inferior molded plastic bobbins. Removing covers will not reveal bobbins and we advise against it.

I put a pair of Twang-Buckers with the Whopper bridge model in my Baritone Strat and Dudes, these pickups are AWESOME! They are exactly what my baritone needed. It gets used in almost every session I do now. I am so impressed with Kinman pickups I’m going to order a pair of your Converge-3 multi-sound humbuckers. The Twang-Bucker bridge and P90-Bucker neck is an ideal combination that can take you from jazz thru rock all the way to country with a lot of stops in between.

There is really nothing to compare these pickups with, and the swamp ash body and mahogany neck of my custom SG makes them sing.

Thanks for your great products that make great sounds that we haven’t heard before.

I have a PRS SE Semi-Custom as a backup – great little guitar – but no matter what I tried in the bridge it just didnt sound right …. I eventually settled on a Dimarzio 36th Anniv PAF (mine is ~6.4k) …. seriously great sounding pickup ……

So why did I try the Kinman ?

As great as the PAF Dimarzio 36th Anniv PAF is, like all great h/b’s, it too suffers from the ususal HB ailments …..

– loose low end
– overly muddy mids
– lacked a bit of crispness in the highs

Spoke to my trusty tech …… explained the above ….. he told me to buy the Kinman Twang Bucker … I did … I put it in ….. and I couldnt sell my Dim PAF quick enough …

In short:-

– mine comes in at ~ 8.9 k installed
– as always – no hum – no noise – even with ultra-high-gain tones in my Axe and Kemper
– does everything my Dim Paf did but it really does have ” piano string lows ” ….. no “murky” mids …. and a nice chimey high end
-its freakin redonkulous …. serioulsy ….
-dont let the higher k rating put you off … it has all the girth of my Dim PAF but its not gainier … its just clearer and punchier …. but all in a good musical way … not in a sterile way
– truthfully it sounds like a fantasic SC and a great P90 had a baby

If you love your PAF style HB but you too have the above issues too ……. but you dont want a hotter / gainier / dirtier pickup ……. this is the answer

Unexpected bonus ……… looks cool too ….. Ben

I have the twangbucker-whopper in the bridge position of my thinline tele, and I can’t say I’ve ever heard a pickup like it. It’s incredibly bright, and therefore responds very well to the tone knob.

It’s very twangy on the lowest strings, yet a little more subtle on the highest. The effect that this gives is that all strings are pretty much balanced in brightness whereas normally the plain strings are a lot brighter than the wounds. This gives it a very unexpected quality: It is a killer pickup to shred on! It’s good for the stuff you’d expect a twangy pickup to do, like country, blues, and classic rock, but don’t shy away from putting some drive on this thing, it will drop your jaw.

I have it together with the 580 soapbar in the neck position, and both series andparralel position sound fantastic. It’s a bit less audible than the 580 in the combined postition (but this is the balance I chose to adjust my pickups to).

The sharp twang combined with the piano tones on the low wounds gives a ridiculously bouncy and spanky low end, that still retains a lot of fatness.

All in all, this pickup is a bit of an oddball, but man am I glad I bought it. Very versatile and surprising.

Dudes. These pickups are AWESOME! They are exactly what my baritone needed. Thanks again, and once again these pickups are awesome!!

Dave
My Twangbuckers are excellent. They have an amazingly rich, clear and clean sound. My wife (who’s not a guitarist) even commented on how clear they are, and what a great sound they have. I took a bit of a risk making a first time purchase from Kinman, based solely on the text description on your site, but it paid off. You guys should consider putting a Twangbucker sound file on your site. The guitar playing public needs to know about these pickups! :) So I’d like to thank you for your help and for making fantastic pickups. I’ll have to save my pennies to get a set for my strat next… Regards, Dave

Hello Chris, I want to applaud you for your Twangbucker. It is an awesome pickup. In the neck of my Tele it sounds better than a Strat. It produces crystal clear tops and ballsy bottoms. This is a pickup that gives me the sounds that I want. I have always liked the TV Jones Classics because they give a full body sound and this pickup does that but with much more articulation on ALL strings (the low wounds as well as the middles and plains). Anyway I will order the Bridge Blaster to keep it all Kinman. Cheers,
